The Topponcino

I was pleasantly surprised when I met my doula client today for our postpartum visit…her husband answered the door with one hand, the other held his newborn son in a topponcino.  This pillow is specially designed to provide a little extra security when transferring an infant from one person to another…

The topponcino is an item commonly made by trainees in the Montessori Assistants to Infancy training, but I don’t usually see them in mainstream infant catalogs or shops.  Turns out that my client works with the mother of a local Montessorian, who made this adorable topponcino for my client!  Small world, indeed.

For more information about topponcinos, check out Montessori in Motion, or Michael Olaf.

Lena, how long is the Topponcino useful? I have a 6week old infant. We LOVED using ours at first, but have fallen away from it now.

      Hi Jennifer,

You know, that’s a good question…I’m not actually A to I trained, but I could see how the six week mark makes sense…I’ll ask around and see what others have to say!

Also, so glad to hear the blog works on Android, too! I haven’t investigated on my iPhone, but I know WordPress has some pretty good mobile settings. :)

And congratulations on your little one! Hope you are all doing well!

I made a couple topponcinos for my son before he was born (he’s now 5 months old), and we used them only briefly for their intended purpose. Now that he is spending a little more time on the floor, we use them as a soft spot to set him down for time on his tummy or back. After all the time I spent making them, he’ll be using it until he goes to college! (halfway joking)

BTW, the blog looks great on my Android phone!

I was just writing to let you know that I am now in the Topponcino making business…if you can call it that…I use 100% natural cotton batting, and a 100% cotton muslin case. Then I can make a cover for your Topponcino any way that you like it. from plain to print, with lace or without.
my facebook site doesn’t have pictures of it yet, but will either today or tomorrow
