Dr. Steven Hughes is a well-known lecturer on the Montessori circuit. He’s a pediatric neuropsychologist at the University of Minnesota and has a series of presentations developed on the benefits of the Montessori approach to education.
One of my favorites is called “Good at Doing Things,” and in my mind, it does a fantastic job of encapsulating why I think Montessori is so effective as a pedagogical method. My colleague Ed Stanford, who teaches in New Zealand and blogs at Montessori Ed, wrote a reflection on hearing this presentation in Auckland a few years ago. It’s worth the read.
For those of you readers who are in the Portland area, he’ll be speaking at PSU on April 28th. Check out the Montessori Institute Northwest for more information on how to purchase tickets!
